WHZ Racing Team
The WHZ Racing Team, based at the Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau (University of Applied Sciences Zwickau) in Germany, is a student-led initiative founded in 2006. Comprising around 30 students from various disciplines, the team designs and builds electric race cars to compete in the prestigious Formula Student competitions. With a focus on innovation, the team has developed 13 fully electric vehicles, including the FP16.24e, which emphasizes packaging, performance, and reliability. Their dedication has led to impressive achievements, such as a first-place finish in the AutoX event at Formula Student Italy 2023.
A key example of their advanced engineering is the Wheelhub, showcased at Formnext. This intricate part demonstrates the complexity of a later 5-axis-milled component, designed to hold their planetary gearbox and carbon fiber rim. 3D printing plays a critical role in the team’s development process, enabling them to prototype parts like the Wheelhub quickly and precisely. By using this technology, the team accelerates design iterations and optimizes performance, ensuring their vehicles remain competitive and innovative on the global stage.
